About “Die Bürgschaft”
"The Pledge" is a ballad written by Friedrich Schiller and published in 1799 in his Musen-Almanach. The poem is based on the ancient legend of Damon and Pythias, which comes from the Latin Fabulae by Gaius Julius Hyginus and was also included in the Gesta Romanorum. The work highlights the values of loyalty and strong friendship. It is one of the most well-known German poems and continues to be recognized for its theme of steadfast devotion.
