About “Die Bürgschaft”
"The Pledge" is a ballad written by Friedrich Schiller and published in 1799 in his Musen-Almanach. The poem is based on the ancient legend of Damon and Pythias, which comes from the Latin Fabulae by Gaius Julius Hyginus and was also included in the Gesta Romanorum.
