About “Fantasmagoriana”

Fantasmagoriana is a French anthology of German ghost stories, translated anonymously by Jean-Baptiste Benoît Eyriès and published in 1812. The collection draws primarily from the first two volumes of Gespensterbuch, a ghost story series by Johann August Apel and Friedrich Laun, published between 1810 and 1811. It also includes stories by Johann Karl August Musäus and Heinrich Clauren. The work was intended to introduce French readers to German supernatural literature and is considered an early example of the ghost story genre in French translation.
