This 1992 novel by Robert Harris is set in an alternate Berlin built as Albert Speer had planned it, the hub of a victorious Third Reich extending from the Rhine to the Urals. In April 1964, one week before Hitler's 75th birthday, detective Xavier March investigates a body found near a prestigious Berlin suburb and uncovers signs of a conspiracy reaching to the top of the Reich, racing against the Gestapo alongside an American journalist to reveal a truth that could topple governments.
