Adam Lang, Britain's longest-serving and most controversial prime minister, resigned in disgrace after supporting an unpopular war on terror. Now living in isolation on Martha's Vineyard, he is working on a memoir with a large cash advance. His previous ghostwriter disappears and is later found dead. A new ghostwriter, experienced with celebrities but cynical and humorous, takes the job, hoping for a big payday. He soon realizes he has made a mistake. As he investigates the previous ghostwriter's death, he uncovers dark secrets about Lang's past that could change world politics and endanger his own life.
