About “Fiesco”
Fiesco is a tragedy written by the German playwright Friedrich Schiller. It is based on a historical conspiracy led by Giovanni Luigi Fieschi against Andrea Doria in Genoa in 1547. Schiller wrote the play after the success of his first drama, The Robbers, and dedicated it to his teacher Jakob Friedrich von Abel. The play contains 75 scenes, more than Goethe's popular work Götz von Berlichingen. It was first performed in 1783 at the Hoftheater in Bonn. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
