About “Flatland”

Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions is a 1884 novella by Edwin Abbott Abbott. It explores the concept of multiple dimensions through the story of a square living in a two-dimensional world. The square dreams of a one-dimensional world called Lineland and tries to convince its ruler of the existence of another dimension, but the ruler cannot understand beyond his own line. Later, a three-dimensional sphere visits the square and shows him Spaceland, helping him grasp the idea of a third dimension. As the story introduces more dimensions, it critiques rigid thinking and the consequences of refusing to consider new perspectives.
