About “Gerusalemme liberata”
Jerusalem Delivered, also known as The Liberation of Jerusalem, is an epic poem by the Italian poet Torquato Tasso, first published in 1581. The poem presents a mythified version of the First Crusade, focusing on Christian knights led by Godfrey of Bouillon who fight to capture Jerusalem. Tasso began writing the work in the mid-1560s under the title Il Goffredo. He completed the poem in April 1575 and read it to Duke Alfonso of Ferrara and Lucrezia, Duchess of Urbino, later that summer. A partial pirate edition of 14 cantos was published in Venice in 1580. The first complete editions of Gerusalemme liberata appeared in Parma and Ferrara in 1581. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
