About “Grantræet”
"The Fir-Tree" is a literary fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, first published on 21 December 1844 along with "The Snow Queen" in New Fairy Tales. First Volume. Second Collection. The story follows a fir tree that is overly eager to grow and achieve more, failing to value the present. It was the first of Andersen's tales to show a deep sense of pessimism, according to one scholar. The tale reflects themes of impatience and the loss of simple joys. It was published in Copenhagen, Denmark, by C.A. Reitzel. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
