About “Great Bible”

The Great Bible of 1539 was the first English Bible authorized by the English monarchy, commissioned by King Henry VIII for use in church services of the Church of England. It was produced by Myles Coverdale under the direction of Thomas Cromwell, who instructed clergy to place a large English Bible in each church for public access. This edition came before the King James Version and was part of the early efforts to provide English translations of the Bible for religious use. The Great Bible was published in 1539 and marked an important step in the history of English biblical translations. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
