About “Little Dorrit”
Little Dorrit, published in 1857, was Charles Dickens's most successful novel at the time of its release. The story follows William Dorrit, who is imprisoned for debt in Marshalsea Prison, and his daughter, Amy, known as Little Dorrit. The novel traces the family's journey from poverty to wealth. In the Introduction, David Gates states that Dickens's imagination is the source of his other talents, including his keen observation, empathy, and ability to balance humor with deep meaning.
