This book is a memoir by Primo Levi, detailing his experiences in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Second World War. At the time, Levi was a 25-year-old chemist who spent 10 months in the camp before it was liberated by the Red Army. He was one of only twenty survivors from the 650 Italian Jews who were sent to Auschwitz. The average lifespan for new prisoners was three months. The book provides a firsthand account of the Holocaust and its impact.
