In a Glass Darkly is a collection of five short stories by Sheridan Le Fanu, published in 1872. The book's title comes from a passage in Corinthians about seeing the world "through a glass darkly." The stories are presented as posthumous writings by an occult detective named Dr. Martin Hesselius. One story, "Green Tea," follows a clergyman tormented by an unseen monkey-like demon. "The Familiar," based on an earlier work, involves a sea captain stalked by a mysterious dwarf. "Mr Justice Harbottle" tells of a judge haunted by vengeful spirits. "The Room in the Dragon Volant" features a man trying to save a countess from a terrible situation. "Carmilla" is about a lesbian vampire, which influenced Bram Stoker's Dracula.
