In Desert and Wilderness is a young adult novel written by Henryk Sienkiewicz, a Polish author and Nobel Prize winner. Published in 1911, it is the only novel Sienkiewicz wrote for children and teenagers. The story follows two young friends, Polish boy Staś Tarkowski and English girl Nell Rawlison, who are kidnapped by rebels during the Mahdist War in Sudan.
