About “Jaap Sahib”
Jaap Sahib is the morning prayer of the Sikhs and was composed by the Tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. It is found at the beginning of the Dasam Granth, the Sikh scripture. The prayer is recited by the Panj Pyare during the Amrit Sanchar ceremony, which initiates individuals into the Khalsa. It is also part of a Sikh's daily prayers, known as Nitnem. Jaap Sahib is similar to Japji Sahib, which was composed by Guru Nanak, as both prayers praise God. According to the Chaupa Singh Rehitnama, Jaap Sahib was completed in 1677.
