About “Kitab al-Hamasah”
Ḥamāsah is a ten-book anthology of pre-Islamic Arabic poetry compiled in the 9th century by Abu Tammam. It is one of the primary sources of early Arabic poetry, alongside the Asma'iyyat, Mufaddaliyat, Jamharat Ash'ar al-Arab, and Mu'allaqat. The work is significant because it was the first Arabic anthology compiled by a poet rather than a philologist and marks the beginning of the Hamasah literary genre.
