Kobzar is a poetry collection by Ukrainian poet and painter Taras Shevchenko. It was first published in 1840 in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire. Shevchenko was born in Moryntsi, Kyiv Governorate, which is now part of Ukraine. The collection gave him the nickname "The Kobzar," and from that point on, the title was used to refer to his poetry.
