About “Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out”
A 2006 novel by Mo Yan follows Ximen Nao, a benevolent landowner who was stripped of his possessions and executed during Mao's Land Reform Movement in 1948. After his death, he is endlessly tortured in Hell before being reborn on Earth as each of the animals in the Chinese zodiac.
