About “Maurice”

"Maurice, or the Fisher's Cot" is a children's story written by Mary Shelley in 1820. It was intended for Laurette Tighe, the daughter of Mary Shelley's friends Margaret King and George William Tighe. Mary Shelley attempted to have the story published through her father, William Godwin, but he refused. The story remained unknown until 1997, when a manuscript copy was found in Italy. The text is now recognized as a rare work by the author of Frankenstein. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
