About “Meshari”

Meshari is the oldest published book in the Albanian language, written by Gjon Buzuku, a Catholic cleric, in 1555. The book has 188 pages and is presented in two columns. It translates key parts of the Catholic Liturgy into Albanian, including the liturgies for major religious holidays, prayers, Bible excerpts, and parts of the ritual and catechism. It was created to assist Christians in performing daily religious services. The only known original copy of Meshari is housed in the Library of the Vatican.
