Detective Sergeant Romulus Poe investigates the brutal murder of a young showgirl in the desert outside Las Vegas, a crime marked by animalistic violence that echoes a previous case linked to a figure known as the Bogeyman. Poe assembles a team including detectives Stephen Jensen and Patricia Deluca, and forensic pathologist Rukmani Kalil, to uncover connections between the killings and hidden elements of Las Vegas's history, including Native American mysticism and medieval folklore.
