About “My Secret War”
In the fall of 1941, Madeline Beck lives with her mother at Mrs. Hawkins' Mansion-by-the-Sea, a Long Island boarding house, while her father guards the Pacific coast on an aircraft carrier. Fearful about the war and being the new kid at school, she finds comfort when Johnny Vecchio, fascinated by the war and her father's role, befriends her, helping her through fears about her father and the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
