About “Night”

Night is Elie Wiesel's 1956 memoir, an autobiographical account of his experiences as a teenager in the Nazi death camps of Auschwitz and Buchenwald. It describes his time in a Hungarian ghetto before his deportation, as well as the horrors he witnessed and endured in the camps. The book was translated into English by Marion Wiesel, Elie's wife and frequent translator, and includes a new preface by the author. It addresses the philosophical and personal implications of the Holocaust, focusing on the capacity for inhumanity and the lasting legacy of the event. Night is part of a collection titled Night with Related Readings and is also published under the titles La Nuit / L'Aube / Le Jour.
