About “Paradise”

Rumors had circulated for over a year, and evidence of strange events began to surface. A mother was pushed down the stairs by her daughter, four babies were born with serious health issues, daughters refused to leave their beds, brides vanished on their honeymoons, and two brothers shot each other on New Year's Day. Many people went to Demby for VD shots, and strange things happened at the Oven. All these events were linked to the Convent, where the women lived. In Paradise, Toni Morrison's novel published after she won the Nobel Prize for Literature, nine men from the all-black town of Ruby attack the Convent in 1976. The story spans from the town's founding in 1890 to the attack, exploring the connection between the town's history and the unknown dangers beyond it. The novel is rich in imagination and carefully written, presenting a powerful mystery.
