About “Passing of Peregrinus”
The Passing of Peregrinus is a satire written by the Syrian Greek author Lucian. It follows the life of Peregrinus Proteus, a Cynic philosopher who exploits the kindness of Christians and leads a deceptive life. Peregrinus eventually dies by self-immolation at the Olympic Games in 165 AD. The work is historically important as it offers one of the earliest non-Christian perspectives on early Christianity.
