About “Passions of the Soul”
In his final philosophical work, The Passions of the Soul, completed in 1649 and dedicated to Princess Elisabeth of Bohemia, René Descartes explores the nature of emotions. Written by the French philosopher and mathematician, the text engages with a long-standing philosophical tradition that examined the passions. These experiences, now referred to as emotions in modern times, had been discussed by philosophers and theologians since the time of Plato. Descartes' work contributes to this ongoing inquiry.
