About “Prometheus Unbound”

Prometheus Unbound is a four-act lyrical drama by Percy Bysshe Shelley, first published in 1820. The play is based on the Greek myth of Prometheus, who defies the gods by giving fire to humanity and is punished by Zeus. Shelley was inspired by the classical Prometheia, a trilogy by Aeschylus. In Shelley’s version, Prometheus is eventually released from his suffering. Unlike Aeschylus’ story, there is no reconciliation between Prometheus and Jupiter. Instead, Jupiter loses his power when his supporters abandon him, leading to Prometheus’ freedom. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
