About “Zastrozzi”
In 1810, Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote Zastrozzi, the first of his two early Gothic prose romances. He published the second, St. Irvyne; or, The Rosicrucian, the following year. These works explore themes of self-indulgence and revenge, revealing early aspects of Shelley's imaginative style. A recent edition includes additional prose fiction by Shelley, such as the chapbook Wolfstein, as well as contemporary reviews of his work. The collection offers insight into Shelley's developing literary voice.
