About “Remembering Babylon”

In the mid-1840s, a thirteen-year-old boy named Gemmy Fairley is left on the shore in northern Australia and raised by Aboriginal people. After sixteen years, he returns to the world of Europeans when settlers arrive. He finds shelter with the McIvors, initially seeming to have a stable place in the settlement. However, tensions and suspicion surround him, creating an atmosphere of unease. The novel explores his struggle to belong in a society that remains wary of him.
