About “Remnant Population”
Remnant Population, a 1996 novel by Elizabeth Moon, centers on Ofelia, who has lived forty years on Colony 3245.12 until Sims Bancorp Company decides to disband it. Rather than relocate, Ofelia stays behind alone, only to discover after a reconnaissance ship's crew is slaughtered that she is not the colony's sole remaining inhabitant.
Praise for “Remnant Population”
“Ofelia–tough, kind, wise and unwise, fond of food, tired of foolish people– is one of the most probable heroines science fiction has ever known.”
“Ofelia is the opposite of your typical first contact protagonist . . . She’s a cranky, 70-year-old woman seeking freedom from societal constraints and learning about herself in later life—a perspective that Moon uses to great effect to subvert the genre’s usual tropes.”
“A fascinating adventure . . . masterfully rendered . . . Enthusiasts for alien anthropology, as well as Moon’s many fans, should enjoy.”
