About “Requiem”
Requiem is an elegy by Anna Akhmatova about the suffering of people under the Great Purge, written over three decades between 1935 and 1961 as she lived and worked across the Soviet Union. Conspicuously absent from her collected works due to its condemnation of the purges, it was published in book form in Munich in 1963 and not within the USSR until 1987.
