About “Robbie”

"Robbie" is a science fiction short story by Isaac Asimov, written in June 1939. It was first published in the September 1940 issue of Super Science Stories under the title "Strange Playfellow," a choice made by editor Frederik Pohl. Asimov later revised the story and published it under its original title in several collections, including I, Robot (1950), The Complete Robot (1982), and Robot Visions (1990). The story is part of Asimov's Robot series and the first of his positronic robot stories to be published. It explores the theme of technophobia and challenges the common science fiction trope of robots turning against humans. In 2016, "Robbie" won a retrospective Hugo Award for best short story.
