About “Ryūkyū Shintō-ki”
Ryūkyū Shintō-ki is a five-volume treatise written around 1605 or 1606 by the Jōdo-sect priest Taichū Ryōtei, who lived in Naha from 1603 to 1606. The work focuses on the religious practices of the Ryukyu Kingdom and was composed before the Satsuma invasion of 1609. It is one of the few surviving works of Okinawan literature from this period. A woodblock print edition of the text was published in Kyoto in 1648. The treatise provides insight into the religious traditions of the Ryukyu Islands during the early 17th century.
