Salome is a one-act tragedy written by Oscar Wilde. The original version was published in 1891 in French, and an English translation was released three years later. The play is based on the Biblical story of Salome, the stepdaughter of Herod Antipas. She asks for the head of Jokanaan, also known as John the Baptist, on a silver platter as a reward for her dance of the seven veils.
