About “Science and Civilisation in China”

Science and Civilisation in China is an ongoing series of books published by Cambridge University Press that explores the history of science and technology in China. Initiated and edited by Joseph Needham, a British historian and scientist, the series was the first to highlight Chinese scientific contributions and their connections to global knowledge, offering a contrast to eurocentric perspectives. The project began in 1954 and has produced seven volumes in twenty-seven books. Needham, who was also involved in the creation of UNESCO, is known for his extensive research and advocacy for the recognition of Chinese scientific achievements. The series was recognized as one of the 100 Best Nonfiction books of the 20th century by the Modern Library Board. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
