About “Skjöldunga saga”
The Skjöldunga saga was an Old Norse legendary saga from around 1180 to 1200. It centered on the Danish Scylding dynasty, a group also mentioned in the Old English poem Beowulf. The original text is lost, but a fragmentary Icelandic work called Sögubrot af nokkrum fornkonungum is thought to have been based on it. Another source, Ad catalogum regum Sveciæ annotanda by Arngrimur, also contains material from the saga. These texts provide the only surviving references to the Skjöldunga saga.
