About “Solaris”

The 1961 novel Solaris by Stanislaw Lem is a cult classic that explores the challenges of communicating with alien intelligence. The story follows Kris Kelvin, a scientist who arrives on the planet Solaris to study the vast ocean that covers its surface. There, he encounters a physical manifestation of a long-dead lover, a memory made real by the planet's mysterious ocean. Other scientists on the planet also face their own repressed memories in physical form. The ocean may be a massive brain, but its purpose remains unclear, leading the characters to question the limits of human understanding. A new English translation of the novel is now available, offering a more accurate version than previous editions.
