About “Sonnet 73”
Sonnet 73, part of William Shakespeare's 154 sonnets, explores the theme of old age. It is addressed to the Fair Youth. The sonnet uses three metaphors in its quatrains: autumn, the end of a day, and a fire that is dying. Each metaphor offers a way for the young man to understand the poet's aging.
