About “Suddenly, Last Summer”
Suddenly Last Summer is a one-act play written by Tennessee Williams in 1957 in New York. It premiered off Broadway on January 7, 1958, as part of a double bill with another Williams one-act, Something Unspoken. The two plays were presented under the collective title Garden District, but Suddenly Last Summer is now frequently performed on its own. Williams considered the play "perhaps the most poetic" he had written, and literary critic Harold Bloom includes it among the best examples of Williams's lyricism.
