About “Terras do sem fim”
The Violent Land is a Brazilian Modernist novel written by Jorge Amado in 1943 and published in English in 1945. The story focuses on the struggles involved in developing cacao plantations in the forests of Bahia, Brazil. Amado considered the novel deeply personal, calling it the source of his roots and describing it as a reflection of his early life. He also referred to it as part of a unique Brazilian "literature of cacao." By 1965, the novel had been adapted into a film and also for stage, television, and radio.
