A 2006 novel by Mario Vargas Llosa. Ricardo Somocurcio loves a woman who reappears throughout his life under different identities: as the teenager 'Lily' in Lima in 1950, then in Paris as 'Comrade Arlette,' an activist en route to Cuba, then as Madame Robert Arnoux, wife of a UNESCO official, and later as Kuriko, mistress of a Japanese businessman. Whoever she is and however poorly she treats him, Ricardo remains doomed to worship her.
