About “The Bribe”

Duke Evans, the sheriff of Calamity, Montana, first encounters a mysterious woman during a standoff with a bison on his favorite hiking trail and rescues her, only to later pull over the same woman and discover she is Lucy Ross, a famous country music singer whose sudden disappearance has been a hot topic in the media. She had given him a fake name, and rather than explain why she lied or why she is in Calamity, she offers him a bribe to keep her secret. Duke refuses the money and sets out to learn why she is on the run.
