About “The Crucible”
The Crucible is a 1953 play written by American playwright Arthur Miller. It is a dramatized and partially fictionalized account of the Salem witch trials that occurred in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1692–93. The play was written as an allegory for McCarthyism, a period in which people in the United States were persecuted for being accused of communist sympathies.
