About “The Defense”
The Defense is the third novel written by Vladimir Nabokov after he emigrated to Berlin. It was first published in Russian in 1930 and later translated into English, where it was published in 1964. The novel is part of Nabokov’s early work, written during his time in Europe before he moved to the United States. It reflects themes and styles that would later appear in his more famous works.
