About “The Divān of Hafez”
The Divân of Hafez is a collection of poems written by the Iranian poet Hafez. Most of the poems are in Persian, but some include macaronic language and one is written in Arabic. The ghazals are the most significant part of the collection. Other forms, such as qetʿe, qasida, mathnawi, and rubaʿi, are also included. There is no evidence that Hafez lost many poems, and he was well-known during his lifetime, suggesting he was not a very prolific poet. The number of accepted ghazals varies by edition, with counts ranging from 484 to 495. The collection contains classical Persian poems written by Hafez.
