About “The Enchanted April”

A notice in The Times advertising a small medieval Italian castle for rent in April attracts four very different women: Mrs. Wilkins and Mrs. Arbuthnot, who are escaping unappreciative husbands; Lady Caroline, who is tired of being pursued by lovesick men; and Mrs. Fisher, an aging and imperious woman. They travel to the Mediterranean, where the beauty, warmth, and leisure of the setting change their lives forever.
