About “The Ethics of Ambiguity”

The Ethics of Ambiguity is Simone de Beauvoir's second major non-fiction work and a philosophical text on existentialist ethics. It originated from a 1945 lecture in which she argued that an ethical system could not be based on her partner Jean-Paul Sartre's Being and Nothingness. Over six months, she developed the ideas into a three-part essay published in Les Temps modernes in November 1947, later released as a book. The work follows the phenomenological tradition and explores the moral implications of human freedom and ambiguity. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
