About “The footsteps at the lock”
Two cousins, Derek and Nigel Burtell, embark on a canoeing voyage up the Thames to improve Derek's health, with Derek set to inherit £50,000 upon reaching his 25th birthday. After the canoe is found adrift at Shipcote Lock with a gash in the hull and Derek missing, the Indescribable Insurance Company sends investigator Miles Bredon to determine whether Derek's disappearance resulted from foul play, accident, or natural causes, while Nigel Burtell also vanishes.
