About “The Golden Speech”
The Golden Speech was delivered by Queen Elizabeth I of England on 30 November 1601 in the Palace Council Chamber to 141 Members of the Commons. It was expected to address pricing concerns due to recent economic issues. However, the speech became her final address to Parliament and shifted focus to her love and respect for the country, her position, and the Members. It is compared to her Speech to the Troops at Tilbury, given before the Spanish Armada. The Golden Speech is seen as a symbolic end of her reign.
