About “The Harafish”
Ashur al-Nagi rises from a modest background to become a respected leader among the working-class residents of his neighborhood. His leadership and dedication earn him the admiration of those around him. However, the subsequent generations of his family lose their sense of responsibility and values, leading them into a path of indulgence and moral decay. The novel explores the contrast between Ashur's integrity and the downfall of his descendants. It is a 1977 work by Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz.
