The fourth volume of Winston Churchill's six-volume The Second World War, covering the Allies' changing fortunes. It describes the period when Germans threaten to overwhelm the Red Army, Rommel dominates the desert war, and Singapore falls to Japan, before the Allies turn the tide with victories at Midway, Guadalcanal, and Stalingrad. Churchill won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953.
